June 30 Member Appreciation Picnic and more

Wells Harbor Community Park was a great location for our member picnic on June 30!  Beautiful day!
Judi Mack and her husband, Dick, were able to join us from MA.  Judi is the Zone 2 SON Secretary.
This panel made by Irene Nelson is the inspiration for the August organized craft activity.
John Foss and Jim Wiggin were the chief chefs at the grill.
Bob Boylestad and Mary Wiggin tried their hand at corn hole.
The Viking ship is making stops in ME as part of its East Coast tour out of Mystic, CT.
The Draken Harald Hårfagre, the largest Viking Ship built in modern times, is coming to Boothbay Harbor July 13-15 and to Rockland July 22-25!  In addition, the ship’s website indicates that a 3rd stop in ME July 27-30 with the location to be announced.Launched in 2012, the Draken Harald Hårfagre crossed the Atlantic from Norway to Canada in 2016, then sailed up the St. Lawrence, into the Great Lakes, and down to New York. The Draken is undertaking an east coast tour this summer and will be visiting 3 stops in Maine.

There will be public tours of the vessel ($12 adults, $6 children) as well as a free shore-side exhibit open to all exploring the history of the Vikings, the story of their vessels and the Draken in particular, the Atlantic crossing, and the science and ecology of the North Atlantic.

In 2017 Maine Nordmenn members John Foss, Karl Livollen, and Steve & Rosanne Graef visited the Draken in Mystic. If you have the chance to see it here in Maine, don’t pass it up. It’s well worth the trip & don’t forget your camera!
