.The mission of Sons of Norway is to
promote and preserve the heritage and culture of Norway, celebrating our
relationship with other Nordic Countries, and provide quality financial products..
Sons of Norway was organized as a fraternal benefit society by 18 Norwegian immigrants in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on January 16, 1895. The purposes and goals of the Founding Fathers were to protect members of Sons of Norway and their families from the financial hardships experienced during times of sickness or death in the family. Over time, the mission of Sons of Norway was expanded to include the preservation of Norwegian heritage and culture in our Society. We have grown since our beginning and are now the largest Norwegian organization outside Norway.
We promote Norwegian traditions and fraternal fellowship through the cultural and social opportunities offered in local lodge and district lodge activities. These activities include language camps and classes, scholarships, handicrafts, cooking and heritage classes, heritage programs, sports programs, travel opportunities, Viking Magazine, and outreach programs sponsored by the Sons of Norway Foundation.
We offer financial protection through our field staff representatives to Sons of Norway members and their families against the hardships of sickness and death through a variety of quality insurance programs.

How You Can Help
Have your Lodge do a fundraiser on our behalf on a scheduled annual event. Keep us in mind when you are planning your estate, or when you expect to receive memorial funds. Please remember us when you are reviewing your charitable donations. Personal contributions are always welcome. It is equally important that you take the initiative to notify us if you think that one of our members may need our assistance. Your identity will never be disclosed outside of our small committee.
This fund operates to help our own Brothers and Sisters. Someone you know may already be a beneficiary. The administrators of this are all unpaid volunteers – resulting in essentially all of our monies being used for our stated purpose. Donations, of course, qualify as tax deductible.
The most direct route is to contact an officer in your Lodge, Zone, of the Third District Counselor. He will gladly accept donations from those who want to help us. He will also follow up discreetly on any Sons of Norway member who may be in difficulty to see if our Trust Fund can help.
Our current Counselor is:

Although, we are a Sons of Norway group, you do not have to be Norwegian to be a member. You just have to have an appreciation and interest in the Scandinavian culture. We have several members who are
“wanna-bees” and are not Norwegian
